Wesly Alvarez is a narrative academic painter living and working in South Florida. He has been exhibited in multiple galleries throughout South Florida and New York and his work has been featured in various academic exhibitions and public cultural events. Wesly Alvarez has been an active member of the local Miami Artistic Community for years.
His paintings are a continuation of the Aesthetic philosophies of Victorian and Baroque painting styles and deal with the issues and influences of contemporary life and culture. Born in the US and being of Cuban, Italian lineage Alvarez’s work is an amalgam of many different cultural influences. The artist credits Ana Mendieta, Salvador Dali, Caravaggio, and Walt Disney as his strongest artistic influences. His quiet, retrospective images are open to the interpretation of the audience. His appropriation of multiple cultural symbols leaves the interpretation malleable to the personal emotional needs of the viewer. The audience connects and creates their own narratives and meaning to the illustrative style being presented to them. In this way, Alvarez creates a new mythos for the contemporary world.
